Proverbs 18:21

"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

Verbal soul-defense, the use of your voice in a threatening situation, is an extremely important tool in protecting yourself. How? Uncommon to popular belief, spiritual criminals do not pounce on an individual when the mood strikes them. They attack when they see an opportunity available to them. Spiritual criminals can not read minds! If it’s easy, they will take it. They will prey on those who are weak, unaware, and an uncomplicated target.

It is not an uncommon scene when a person actually welcomes a spiritual criminal into their mind without having to do anything on the outside. How? Their thought-life. What happens is the criminal approaches a person at a time of need in their life, and gets the person to agree with his bait. This bait can be very appealing to the person and it can even seem harmless and beneficial at that point and time. The spiritual criminal is known to disguise himself as a good guy, as to deceive people into giving him access into their lives:

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Spiritual criminals will act on premeditation, or stalk their victims ahead of time, waiting for them to stumble into sin before attacking. It is important to understand how the criminal works, so that we can equip ourselves to stand against him. Paul said that they were not ignorant of Satan's devices... this is something that many people today cannot claim:

"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices" (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Prayerfully keep you eyes on everyone. Just because they might not ‘look’ like someone the spiritual attacker will work through, doesn’t mean that is the case. If someone is approaching you to present a new religion or way to Heaven, be careful. "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world"(1 John 4:1-3). Evil assailants can not stand up under the truth of God's word.

It’s called putting up a verbal boundary or verbal soul-defense. Many who have used this as part of their soul-defense training say they were amazed when they stepped toward a threatening spiritual attacker and yelled “In Jesus Name-Back Off!” in a strong, assertive, projecting voice. And because of the authority they have in Christ, the would-be assailant did just that. "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority" (Colossians 2:8-10).

Using scripture sprays can work in the same manner just by aiming at a potential attacker in your mind and quoting a Bible verse that relates to the particular assault. For example, if you are being attacked by worry or doubt say out loud, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (Hebrews 13:6).

Scripture sprays are only effective if properly used. Using the scriptures out of their context is not effectively using it. This was what Satan attempted to do with Jesus in the wilderness. "Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test” (Matthew 4:5-7). The key to using scripture is proper context. Prayfully study the scriptures so you will be prepared when the enemy attacks.

Knowing how verbal soul-defense works can be a terrific safety tool for Christians in preventing them from falling prey to spiritual criminals. Verbal soul-defense is also another way to build your faith. "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17).

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason. However, we fight from victory not for victory. Keep Fighting.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank you that in Christ, my words have power. May your perfect will be done in my life. Amen
